Christian Louboutin unveils his 20th anniversary capsule collection at an event hosted by Bergdorf Goodman. The red sole magician's collection is a revival of his top 20 iconic styles from the past two decades including his first red sole shoe.

For the special Anniversary Collection event, 2010 and 2011 graduates form the Parsons School of Design were invited to participate in a contest to create apparel inspired by Louboutin styles of the past two decades with a specific focus on the revival collection.

Louboutin says, “My goal is to create shoes that add music and movement to the way a woman walks.”... indeed he does.

The Collection is sold through select Bergdorf Goodman department stores and Christian Louboutin boutiques.

Beautiful Inspiration ~ DIY Bouquets

There is nothing like a pretty bouquet to liven a room. They are a decorating tool that can take a room from drab to fab in a few moments, like pretty jewels can embellish an ensemble. They just make me happier when I walk into a room. Wouldn't you agree?

This DIY bouquet is easy to recreate and is sure to put a smile on your face.

With the oasis inside of the vase, start lining the inner rim with ti leaves, making sure both the top and bottom are cut at straight angles so they lay evenly in the vase. Continue adding until the entire vase is lined.

Create a circle around the lip of the vase with tape. Then make a grid pattern on the top (a 3×3 fits perfectly) and then secure with a final layer of tape around the circumference.

Begin with the largest flowers (in this example, white hydrangeas) and place them in the vase at varying heights (three shorter and three taller).

Add in the next largest flower (the pink peonies) and spread them out evenly. Trim them so that they’re about the same height as the tallest flower.

Finish with the smallest flowers (the tulips and freesia) and keep them long so that they don’t get lost.

Use extra leaves as filler to cover up any empty spaces and fill with 110-degree water. The stems absorb warm water more readily, making them less prone to drooping.

Dissolve a commercial flower preservative in the vase's water. The preservative supplies nutrients for the hydrangeas and prevents bacteria from attacking the blooms and causing them to wilt.

Voila ~ enjoy!

I hope you had a lovely weekend! Mine was filled with late morning brunch with lattes and buttery croissants at my favourite french bakery, movie night with T, sharing brie topped with fig preserves, and a most enjoyable surprise birthday dinner with loved ones.

As I'm certain most of you who know, I absolutely adore glamorous interiors. I want to share with you some of my favourites... and who couldn't use a little glamour on a Monday?

Bon Weekend plus Couture Cocktails ~

On the first day of my Interior Design II course, each student was given an iconic piece of furniture to use in a downtown loft design (my fingers were secretly crossed for the Barcelona, Eames Lounge or Egg chairs). Instead I was give the Bertoia bar stool. Although not what I originally wished for, this piece really is spectacular and I'm having so much fun with it... I hope to use it in the world!

2 Tbsp Lime Juice

3oz Champagne

Muddle the mint leaves, sugar and lime juice together until the sugar is dissolved. Strain the ingredients into a a chilled champagne glass and top up with the bubbly!

You can also use prosecco, cava or sparkling wine with this recipe...

I was lucky enough to find the last pair in my size, or so I thought, but upon arrival I discovered they were a tad too big. The very sweet and helpful sales associate offered to have pads placed under the soles and, to my delight, it was like magic!

I spotted this pleated silk blouse by Joie in Saks the other day. The beautiful bow in the back and romantic Dusty Pink Sand colour drew me in closer. It will be perfect with my new Louboutin's.

The weekend is upon us once again. This week seemed to fly pass me too quickly. Perhaps it was due to having so many things on the agenda this week. It's my last weekend of freedom before school begins next week and I plan to enjoy every second.

I'm loving this Bardot-esque hairstyle. It's perfect for weekends ~ day or night. It doesn't require much time to create this style but yet looks chic and sexy . What can be more perfect?

Prep strands with a volumizing spray, then wrap small sections around a curling iron to create movement in the hair. Before pulling hair into a low bun, backcomb the crown section and be sure to leave out a few face framing pieces. Pin the leftover layers back loosely. The more tousled, the better!

Couture Cocktails

1 1/2 Grey Goose La Poire Vodka

3/4 part Limoncello
1/2 simple syrup
1 part orange juice
mint leaves and dried pears for garnish

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add all of the ingredients and shake vigorously until the outside of shaker is frosted and beaded with sweat. Strain into a rocks glass rimmed with sugar {optional} and filled with crushed ice. Garnish if desired.

The weekend is among us... a time for repose and relaxation. I hope you had a most lovely first week of 2012. Mine was spent with my husband and kids, late afternoon lunch plans, charming boutiques filled with vibrant spring fashions and beautiful days of unusually warm temperatures nearing 70 degrees, a bit too early to be planning for spring... however, a girl can dream, can't she?

Turkish Delight Martini

1/2 lemon

1.5 fluid ounces vodka

3 tsp white crème de cacao

3 tsp rose syrup

2-3 drops rosewater

garnish: drinking chocolate and rose petal {optional}

Rub the rim of an chilled elegant martini glass with the lemon or lime, then dip into a saucer of drinking chocolate. Combine the vodka, crème de cacao and rose syrup in a cocktail shaker with a handful of ice. Stir well, then strain into the martini glass. Add a few drops of rosewater and garnish with rose petals, if you like. Sip and enjoy...

Rather than resolutions, I list wishes and dreams for the new year... as if wishing on a falling star or blowing out a birthday candle.

This year, I wish for ~ my family to continue to be blessed with good health, happiness and to be safe. I wish for and dream of world peace, every suffering child, and person on earth, to be filled with love and hope, and for everyone to remember our men and women in the military service.

I hope you had a wonderful holiday season! It came and went much too quickly, as always.

I love the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas. However, with finals and last projects to catch up on, I could hardly catch my breath. My wonderful husband planned a lovely 4 day trip to Chicago for the two of us and followed by a short family trip to my parents lake home.

Now I have a few weeks to relax and I plan to enjoy every second... late mornings with lattes, catching up with girlfriends over lunch and shopping, and sharing beauty and moments with you.

Hello and how are you? It's wonderful to be back. I know it's been a long time... and I have some explaining to do. Life seemed to take off and I could barely keep up. School has kept me very, very busy (some nights only a few hours sleep)... projects to complete, papers due, exams to be taken. Add three children, a husband, home to take care of and two little french bulldogs giving me sad eyes each time I leave and it becomes quite exhausting. However, after a very busy weekend, I found a few spare moments to sit down and write to you.

It's been long awaited... Maison Ladurée is now open in New York City. I had hoped it would be open in time for my visit in May but, sadly, they were behind schedule. However, if you are near Madison Ave, between 71st and 72nd, you can treat yourself to the most celebrated macarons in the world.

This jewel box of a boutique will have two areas ~ one for sales and order taking while the adjacent room will be reserved for tea and conversation.

I see a trip to NYC in my future!

I hope everyone's weekend is off to a great start! I can't believe how quickly the week flew by. I started school this week and my classes seem like they're going to be so much fun and very busy. I'm taking a History of Cultural Environment course that I just know I'm going to love. Architecture and furnishings in one class... what's not to love?

Couture Cocktails

Elvis' Rum Punch

1 oz. orange juice
1 oz. pineapple juice
1 oz. guava juice
1/2 oz. lime juice
3 dashes of bitters
3 oz. Mount Gay rum
Amaretto
Nutmeg

In a shaker add first 6 ingredients. Add ice and stir or shake.

Pour in a tall glass. Add an Amaretto floater and sprinkle with nutmeg.

This fruity tropical drink comes from the popular Elvis’ Beach Bar in Anguilla. Serves 1

A Hint of Fall

This morning, as I took a breath, I could feel just a hint of fall in the air. Bella asked me to close my eyes and guess what little pieces of "nature" she placed inside my hand. It's funny what you can sense if you only take a moment and close your eyes (the little things that children teach you). At that moment I felt a bit of excitement. Although I love summer, it's a welcomed feeling after two months of extreme temperatures that have, and continue, to soar above 100 degrees.

When I saw this photo from YSL I fell hard for the violet feather dress and lace up boots. It made me feel a bit more excited for fall's arrival!

The latest Lulu Frost for J.Crew collection became available to select stores and online August 18th. Inspired by Lulu Frost designer Lisa Salzer's personal collection of antique brooches, belt buckles and pins, the capsule features a total of 14 Art Deco-influenced pieces.

Consisting of all in bright hues with sparkly Czech crystal accents. There are several colorful high-gloss resin bangles, stone and crystal pendants and earrings. The collection ranges in price from $45 to $135. This collection marks the second collaboration for Lulu Frost and J.Crew.

I hope everyone had a fabulous week! The weekend is among us and I am looking forward to relaxing a bit after a very busy week.

Couture Cocktails

Back in May, T and I went to NYC for our 15 year anniversary celebration. One of our favourite restaurants is Balthazar. The food, the drinks.. everything is complete perfection so when I found this recipe online I had to share it with you.

According to legend, Chambord originated in France during the reign of Louis XIV.

Balthazar French Martini

1 ounce chilled vodka

1 ounce pineapple juice

1/3 ounce Chambord

Ice cubes

In a cocktail shaker, combine the vodka, pineapple juice, Chambord and ice cubes.

Shake vigorously to produce a frothy head and strain into a chilled martini glass. Serve straight up. Makes 1 martini.

I fell head-over-heels for Kate Moss' incredibly romantic wedding photos. In early July, Kate married The Kills guitarist, Jamie Hince, close to her home in Cotswold, England.

The church looks like one from a fairytale.

I had to include this photo of Kate's mirrored dressing table.

Moss ~ “I wanted it to be kind of dreamy and 1920s, when everything is soft‐focus,” Moss explains of the ceremony. “The Great Gatsby. The code name was GG for a while. That light and that kind of fun decadence. It’s rock‐’n’‐roll Great Gatsby!”

Couture Cocktails ~

I thought this champagne cocktail would be a perfect fit for Kate's ultra romantic fête.

Lavender Champagne Cocktail

1/8 cup sugar (see note below)

1/4 tablespoon dried lavender

1 bottle of dry Champagne

Fresh lavender sprigs, for garnish

1. Bring sugar and 1/2 cup water to a boil in a saucepan, stirring to dissolve sugar. Stir in dried lavender. Remove from heat. Let cool completely. Strain out lavender. Refrigerate syrup until ready to serve (up to 1 month).

2. Pour about 6 ounces Champagne and 1 1/2 teaspoons syrup into each flute. Garnish each with a lavender sprig.

Ps: I prefer superfine sugar is also known as bar sugar (so-named for use in mixing alcoholic drinks) or baking sugar. It is granulated sugar with unusually small crystals.

One thing that you already know about me is that I'm incredibly smitten with glamour and champagne, so there is no wonder that I've fallen madly in love with GILT.

GILT Champagne lounge, located in London's Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel in the heart of Knightsbridge, offers a drink menu of 10 Champagnes, several specialty champagne cocktails as well as the typical bar drinks.

The 1940's replica brass doors open at 6pm to welcome guests in to relax on sumptuous velvet chairs, sip champagne and nibble on a selection of decadent snacks such as langoustine tempura and foie gras pancakes with plum sauce.

The intimate lounge is bathed in hand-blown Murano glass screens made up of 4,500 glass balls and a chandelier made of 140 larger Murano glass spheres created by New York artist Suzan Etkins.

The astonishing brass briquette floor tiles from De Ferranti's Alchemy Collection set the foundation for this seductive venue.

Displayed on the bar is a large hand-cast glass champagne bowl filled with Pommery Champagne bottless. The luxurious lounge also features lucite tables, cream leather banquettes of soft Scottish leather contrasting with chocolate velvet mohair seating.

Bon Weekend, Paris 'Love Locks' and Couture Cocktails ~

I hope everyone had a fabulous week! I certainly had a fun, busy week with my kids and, thankfully, the heat wave broke.

I took my daughter to see her favourite band, Big Time Rush, and my car thermometer read 108 degrees on the way to the concert! Her happiness and great seats made up for the several times I thought I was going to faint due to the sweltering heat. I'm being dramatic with the fainting statement, but it was terribly hot!

Leave your heart in Paris ~

Paris has long been the destination for lovers, and the Pont des Arts bridge is the place to leave your heart in the City of Lights. For the past few years couples have been attaching thousands of padlocks to the bridge and throwing the keys into the River Seine as a sign of their never-ending love. Couture Cocktails ~

Fujiyama Saketini Recipe

• 1½ oz. Hangar One Mandarin Blossom Infused Vodka
• ½ oz. plum Saki
• 1 oz. POM Pomegranate Juice
• Splash Cointreau
• ½ fresh squeezed lime
• ¾ oz. homemade lemongrass syrup
• Lime wheel, for garnish
• Orchid, for garnish

Directions:
Place ingredients (except garnishes) in mixing tin over ice; shake till your hands freeze. Strain into martini glass; garnish with lime wheel and an orchid.

Beautiful Inspiration ~ Le Carnival de Versailles

On the evening of July 9th, the Orangerie of the Palais Versailles hosted the most splendorous masked ball ~ Le Carnival de Versailles.

When I saw these photos via The Cherry Blossom Girl, I began to envision what an enchanting evening this must be! This is truly one of my life's dreams to attend this magical event.

Quote from the event's website ~ "If there is one place where all the extravagances may be permitted it is certainly the Palace of Versailles. Let yourself be swept away in this baroque setting saturated with history. Be a royal figure, a courtier, a Venetian Doge, a musketeer, a Russian archduke, a lady in waiting or a Persian princess: the only requirement is to meet the demands of the Court. Some commoners may mingle with the guests, but they will do so at their own risk!"

At 10pm, a secret gate on the grounds will be open, allowing private access directly onto the boulevards of the Palace gardens. Guests will be able to pass through the gardens in procession, taking in the illuminated fountains on the way up to the terrace, in order to watch the fireworks scheduled at 11pm, before heading to the Palace Orangerie.

The ball itself promises to be nothing less than extraordinary, recreating the traditional Baroque atmosphere of a masquerade ball with the participation of contemporary musicians. Guests will have the exhilarating experience of being both actors and spectators, whilst musicians shift from a classical start to a more modern soundtrack ensuring that the party lasts until dawn.

I would slip into a most extragant party attire, à la Marie-Antoinette, for this frivolous ball hosted by art director, Frédéric Flamand.

Le Fleur de Paradis

2 oz Gin

.5 oz Lemon juice

.5 oz Grapefruit juice

.75 oz St-Germain Elderflower Liqueur

.25 oz Simple syrup

Dash orange bitters

1 oz Perrier-Jouët champagne

Garnish: Flower

Glass: Cocktail

Shake all ingredients, except for champagne, with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass. Top with champagne and garnish with an edible flower from a gourmet food store.

A perfect way to begin the weekend, non?

Heat Wave

With extremely hot temperatures soaring to 100+ degrees and the summer semester coming to an end, all I can think about is relaxing and staying cool! I can't even talk my children into letting me take them to the pool and I have to carry one of my Frenchie's, Coco, outside as she runs the other direction when I open the door.

If I had my choice of destination to visit at this very moment, I would chose Monte-Carlo and the luxurious Hôtel Hermitage ~

This historic Belle Époque Palace, facing the Mediterranean Sea, has been a landmark since 1900 and has been granted the status of historical monument.

Cultivating a refined atmosphere, the 5 Star Hôtel Hermitage overlooks the Harbour Of Monte-Carlo and the Prince's Palace, the hotel is appreciated for it's charming architecture, unparalleled service and one of Europe's finest spas.

Behind its corbelled facade decorated with frescoes and perched above the port, it harbors a few masterpieces, such as the Salle Belle Epoque with its pink marble columns and its crystal chandeliers, and a winter garden topped with a spectacular glass and steel dome signed by Gustave Eiffel.

I would lounge all day, indulge in various spa services and put on a pair of Louboutin's for a night on the town... a girl can dream, can't she?

Another fabulously busy week with endless amounts of activities... and now, a weekend filled with dinner reservations with girlfriends, a couple of online quizzes and spending time working on a school project.

I'm taking a Computer Art Studio course and my project is to redesign something that you would like to make better. I chose Christian Louboutin's shoebox. I need to create a display and a web page as well. My instructor likes my designs so much that he feels I should send them to Mr Louboutin when they're completed. I really do love this project!

Also, I received a package this week from the lovely Celia from Falling Off a High-Heeled Life and Atteatude and Chocolate!

Two things I adore ~ stationary and nougat! The nougat was delightful, and I'm certain you know who will receive my first letter from the new stationary set.

I've had a long love affair with Elie Saab's haute couture collections. His cascading gowns, coupled with models donning romantic, side swept chignons, seem as if they're from another era, telling a story of 'happily ever after' ...

Season after season his gowns are flourished with miles of perfectly draped, embellished fabric that flows in all the right places ...

An excellent example of his continuing legacy, is Saab's Autumn/Winter 2011/2012 twinkling collection of winter whites, icy gray-blues, champagne, smokey gray and navy chiffon and tulle. It's nothing short of utterly breathtaking.

He really is a genius, isn't he?

Couture Cocktails ~

With the temps heating up, how perfect are these popsicles for a refreshing Apéritif?

Blackberry Prosecco Popsicle

20 oz Prosecco
1/3 cup of blackberries
4 oz crème de cassis
Splash of fresh lime juice
2 pinches of lime zest

Place blackberries in a bowl and pour crème de cassis on top. Toss to coat. Using a muddler or a rounded blunt end of a kitchen tool, crush berries into the crème de cassis. Add lime juice and zest, toss to combine.

Measure approximately 1 teaspoon of berry mixture into bottom of your chosen popsicle form and pour Prosecco on top.

Freeze for about 2 hours or until mixture starts to solidify enough to hold a popsicle stick upright. Insert popsicle sticks and finish freezing popsicles overnight.

A few notes:

Do not remove from freezer until ready to serve as the carbonation in the Prosecco creates tiny air pockets that will make the popsicles melt faster.

Cordial glasses were used for the popsicles in the picture, but any form will work.

A little tip that I came up with for larger popsicles, to keep them from dripping on your hand as they begin to melt, I place a smaller size foil cupcake liner over the top of the glass prior to removing it.

Makes 12 2.5oz popsicles

Elderflower and Lemon Sparkling Sipper

• 1/2 cup elderflower syrup
• 2 lemons, juiced (about 1/4 cup)
• 1 bottle cava, well-chilled
• Raspberries, to garnish

Whisk together the elderflower syrup and the lemon juice. Pour approximately 2 tablespoons of this mixture into a champagne saucer or flute. Add enough cava to fill the glass 3/4 full, or to your taste. Swirl gently. Drop in a few raspberries, say cheers, and sip! This is one recipe I will be making soon.

LVMH To Open Heritage Sites To Public

The Maisons of LVMH will welcome the public to some of their symbolic and secluded heritage sites. The 25 visitor locations included are workshops, vineyards, private mansions, family homes and historic boutiques located in France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and Poland. The dates are Oct 15th & 16th, 2011.

This venture is part of the LVHM's publicity campaign to showcase and increase interest in the artisanal traditionals and time-honored workmanship that takes place behind-the-scenes at each of their perfumery, cosmetics, jewellery, leather crafting, fashion design and watch making Maisons.

LVMH owns land areas in the Champagne region, Bordelais, Scotland and Charente, where high-end wine and spirits are produced, including some of my favourites ~ Veuve, Moët & Chandon, Ruinart and Krug. The leather goods, fabric, perfume, jewelry and watch traditions also have their roots in ancient and legendary places including Paris and numerous French provinces, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, the Hautvillers Abbey, the workshops on Avenue Montaigne, Place Vendome and Asnières.

I hope you had a lovely weekend! The warm, summer days are in full swing and I am enjoying every second of it.. shopping at the local farmer's market, wine and cheese filled picnic baskets, homemade ice cream.

Recently, I read about the book, The Beauty Detox Solution by clinical nutritionist, Kimberly Snyder. Rather than run out and purchase yet another beauty and nutrition book, I began reading Kimberly's blog instead. I read good reviews about her Glowing Green Smoothie and thought I would give it a try. I'm not one to follow celebrity fads. Instead, I prefer to find something that works and stick with it. I believe I found something I will stick with!

In lieu of my morning french press of Starbucks each morning (yes, I can drink an entire french press of coffee), I decided I would make a Glowing Green Smoothie. I am happy to report that I was delighted with the pleasant taste and I have yet to miss the coffee. I have more energy and I know it's a much healthier choice.

Glowing Green Smoothie

1 1/2 cups water
1 head organic romaine lettuce, chopped
3-4 stalks organic celery
1/2 head of a large bunch or 3/4 of a small bunch of spinach
1 organic apple, cored and chopped
1 organic pear, cored and chopped
1 organic banana
Juice of 1/2 fresh organic lemon
optional:
1/3 bunch organic cilantro (stems okay)
1/3 bunch organic parsley (stems okay)

Add the water and chopped head of romaine to the blender. Starting the blender at low speed, mix until smoothe. Gradually moving to higher speeds, add the celery, apple and pear. Add the cilantro and parsley, if you are choosing to add them. Add the banana and lemon juice last.• Try to drink at least 16-24 ounces a day. Stir before drinking.
• Feel free to mix your greens and fruits, as they combine well together (except for melons). Be sure to balance the light and darker greens, so for instance, if you want to add some kale, be sure to balance with the lighter green of celery. Greens can be substituted.
• * If you are diabetic and prefer to cut out all high glycemic fruit, you can omit the banana. Otherwise, I suggest keeping it in, as it adds a nice consistency and taste.
• ** It is important to blend until all “chunks” are removed from the mixture. There are a lot of nutrients encased into the cell walls of the green plants, and these need to be ruptured so full nutrition is available upon consumption without much digestive work.

I find my blender does just fine at chopping and mixing the ingredients so I have no intention of purchasing the $600 VitaMix anytime soon. I make the smoothie ahead of time and refrigerate until chilled.

Tip ~ If you don't have access to organic produce, regular fruits and vegetables are okay too, says Kimberly, who recommends soaking them with diluted apple cider vinegar to remove the pesticides.

As with anything else, I took away from the book what I feel will benefit me. Kimberly's book offers great advice and I highly recommend it.

I thought this was a fabulous idea and RSVP'd right away!

I'll begin my evening with this spectacular view. After all, can there a bad view in Paris? Not in my mind.

I'll wear this gown and bring this bottle of champagne ... we can't have a soirée without Perrier Jouet.

There are so many things that I love about Paris. Just to name a few ...

Beautiful Inspiration ~ Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty

I just returned from a lovely trip to NYC with my wonderful husband to celebrate our 15 year anniversary. One of the many highlights from our trip was Savage Beauty at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The exhibit, organized by The Costume Institute, celebrates the work of the late Alexander McQueen and how his extraordinary fashions went beyond trends. His pieces reflected his notions on culture, politics and identity.

Guido Palau, a longtime hairstylist for McQueen, crafted the masks from leather, jewels, burlap, lace, felt, fur and feathers. They are just amazing!

Savage Beauty features approximately 100 pieces from McQueen’s collections, ranging from years 1994 to 2010, as well as a "Cabinet of Curiosities" containing jewelry and Philip Treacy designed hats.

The book, Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty, is published to coincide with the exhibit. It features a photo of McQueen on the cover peering behind a holographic skull. A fitting image for a book that provides a glimpse into the mind of the reclusive late designer.

Located in the Iris and B Gerald Cantor Exhibition Hall on the second floor. Exhibit dates: May 4th-July 31, 2011

I highly recommend this exhibit. It was truly amazing! My husband loved it as much as I did.

How lovely are the colours of these cocktails? Perfect for a spring weekend..

Pink Martini

2oz Bacardi

1/2 oz raspberry Liqueur

1/2 oz triple Sec

1oz pineapple

1 splash cranberry Juice

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add all ingredients. Shake vigorously until outside of shaker is frosted. Strain into martini glass and garnish with a flower.

Midori Melon Cocktail

2 oz Midori
1/2 oz fresh juice
1 tsp sugar syrup

Mix all ingredients with ice in a shaker. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Option: Garnish with a red cherry.

Black Orchid

1 1/4 parts orange vodka

3/4 parts creme de violette
3/4 parts lemon juice
1/2 parts simple syrup
1 dash peach or orange bitters

Garnish: 1 edible orchid or violet flower

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice add all ingredients. Shake vigorously until outside of shaker is frosted and beaded with sweat. Strain into martini cocktail glass and garnish with flower.

Lemon Myrtle

2 oz chardonnay
1 oz Lemoncello
1/2 oz. mojito mint syrup
1/2 oz. Cointreau
1 oz. sour mix

Shake and strain into a martini glass rimmed in sugar

Garnish with a lemon wheel

Blue Martini

1oz Hpnotiq liqueur

1/2 oz vodka
2 oz lemonade

Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice

Shake & strain into a martini glass

Garnish with lemon twist

I recently stumbled onto Cake Opera's website and was enamoured by the beauty of their designs!

Sorry for my lack of posts recently. The school year is coming to a close and I have tons of work coming due, finals, etc.. I can hardly believe how quickly the semester flew by!

Beautiful Inspiration ~ Scarves

Sorry for the delay in posts over the past week. Sick children, exams, power point projects, more exams.. it can leave a girl with very little time for blogging!

St Louis is known for it's crazy spring weather. One day the temperature is warm and sunny and within a few hours it may snow. You really can't determine what to wear from one day to the next, or one hour, at times. With that being said, I wear a lot of scarves.

Mulberry

Not only are they chic, but nothing ties your look together as effortlessly as a scarf. It's the perfect piece to throw on with your basic top and jeans during the day and effortlessly transition to an evening wrap for those breezy summer nights.

One of my personal favourites ~ Emilio Pucci. I wear them every way possible.

Hermès is another favourite. I love these by accomplished designer Phillipe Dumas. This line "Life as a Fairy Tale" which depicts fairytale characters such as Snow White, Peter Rabbit, Harlequin, The Princess and the Pea and Puss in Boots to name a few.

Delightful Indulgence ~ Japanese Cotton Soft Cheesecakes w/ Cherry Blossom Buttercream

Japanese Cotton Soft Cheesecakes With Cherry Blossom Buttercream And Raspberry Sugar

For the cakes:

250g cream cheese

50g unsalted butter

100ml whole milk

1 tsp vanilla paste

60g plain flour

20g cornflour

1 tbsp lemon juice

6 egg yolks

6 egg whites

1/4 tsp cream of tartar

150g sugar

For the buttercream:

150g unsalted butter

300g icing sugar

50ml double cream

1 tsp sakura (cherry blossom) extract (or any other flavouring)

1 drop red colour paste

For the raspberry sugar:

200g caster sugar

5 raspberries

Preheat the oven to 150˚C. Half-fill a baking tray with water and place on the bottom shelf. Line a cupcake tray with cupcake cups.

Place the cream cheese, butter, milk and vanilla paste in a bowl over a hot water bath and stir until mixture is smooth and creamy. Allow to cool to room temperature (you can place the bowl in a sink of cold water to help speed up the process).

Sift the flour and cornflour into the cheese mixture, add the lemon juice and egg yolks and stir until a smooth mixture forms.

In a separate bowl, whisk the egg whites and cream of tartar until stiff, then add the sugar and whisk until soft peaks form.

Add the egg white mixture to the cheese mixture and gently fold under.

Pour into cupcake cups and place in the middle of the oven over the water bath and bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and allow to cool.

To make the buttercream, whisk the butter and icing sugar until crumbly, then add the double cream and flavouring and whisk until smooth. Place the buttercream in a piping bag fitted with a Wilton 1M tip, or similar, and pipe swirls onto the tops of the cakes.

To make the raspberry sugar, place the sugar and the raspberries in a food processor and blend until smooth and pink. Sprinkle over the piped cupcakes. Keep the remaining raspberry sugar in an airtight container for other baking or coating the rims of cocktail glasses.

How perfect are these petal baking cups from Sugarcraft? I think they would go nicely for a Easter tablescape!

A Beautiful Monday... and Macarons

...drizzling rain but I don't mind so much as the temperature is perfect..

the flowers are blooming, the trees are growing leaves, and the grass is beginning to be lush. I love spring. I'm sure you never would have guessed.

A few months ago, I mentioned that Ladurée was opening a store in NYC..

however, I received an email from them this morning stating that it will now open in June. I was disappointed to hear this as I was hoping to visit the store next month.

Now I' searching for the next best place.. any recommendations??

Betty Lou Phillips has an artist's eye for French design. Her style is exquisite and her guest bath is no exception. The inspiration came from this beautiful pair of napkin rings.

Aren't they lovely? How I would love to have a pair!

Whilst shopping in Paris, she purchased the set of silver napkin rings engraved 'Madame' and 'Monsieur.' Although it took 15 years, she found her inspiration ~ her guest bath.

The hand-burnished cast iron bathtub is modeled after a 19th-century one of French copper.

For the marble shower, she took her inspiration from the grand old palace hotels of Paris ~ the Plaza Athénée, the Ritz, George V, the Hotel de Crillon. "

Phillips, who has written a series of books on French design, is captivated by the flair of the French. She says "their attention to detail is unwavering--they leave nothing to chance", nor does she.

The tub has a floor-mounted water filler, 19th-century crystal chandelier, freestanding nickel-leg washstands, a vintage glass pharmacy chest, and fittings that read chaud and froid.

I received a phone call the other day from a friend, she had a question regarding how to incorporate a statement piece into her existing décor. I explained to her that it is the same as if she were adorning herself with a piece of beautiful jewelry that would make her ensemble unique. It may be a piece of art, furniture, lighting, wallpaper, architectural details or an entire wall.

This wall is sure to be the focal point in this room

A statement piece should not compete with the rest of the décor, it should take center stage.

The carrera marble bathtub and surround is exquisite! The sconces add the perfect touch.

When choosing the perfect statement piece, consider your style and interests. If you are passionate about European history, you might incorporate French antiques or reproduction pieces, such as an intricately hand-carved Louis chair. It's an opportunity to express your personality.

When designing your home, fill it with things you love. Investing in one piece of furniture which is of superior quality is better than buying an entire dining room set of a poor quality which will need to be replaced. It seems that so many pieces on the market today do not last. I could go on about this subject...

Delightful Indulgence ~ French Fruit Tart

With the arrival of spring, various types of fruits are becoming available at the markets. This elegant, jewel-coloured dessert is a perfect treat and it pairs well with champagne. Don't be alarmed at the length of this recipe.. it is quite simple to make.

Pastry Crust:

9" fluted tart pan with removable bottom, or 4 mini pans

1 1/2 C all-purpose flour, sifted

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 C cold, unsalted butter

1/4 C granulated white sugar, I prefer baker's sugar

1 large egg, lightly beaten

In a medium bowl, whisk flour and salt until incorporated. Beat butter in a mixer, or your method of preference, and beat until softened. Add sugar and beat until fluffy and light. Gradually incorporate the egg, beating just until incorporated. Add the flour mixture mix until a ball forms, carefully not to over mix as this will harden the crust. Flatten pastry dough and cover with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 25-30 minutes, or until firm.

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pastry dough to a 12" circle that is about 1/8 inch thick. To prevent the pastry from sticking to the counter, and to ensure uniform thickness, keep lifting and turning the dough a quarter turn as you roll (always roll from the center outwards to get uniform thickness). To make sure the dough is the correct size, place tart pan over the rolled pastry dough. The pastry dough should be approximately 2" larger in diameter than the tart pan.

When the pastry is rolled to the desired size, lightly roll it around your rolling pin, dusting off any excess flour, and unroll onto top of tart pan. Lay dough in pan and lightly press into bottom and sides of pan. Roll your rolling pin across the top of pan to get rid of excess pastry. Prick bottom of dough (this will prevent the dough from puffing as it bakes). Cover and refrigerate for approximately 20 minutes to chill.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line unbaked pastry shell with buttered parchment paper or aluminum foil. Fill tart pan with pie weights (you can substitute with beans), making sure the weights are filled to the top of the pan and evenly distributed over the entire surface. Bake crust on center rack for 20-25 minutes, or until lightly golden brown. Remove weights and cool crust on wire rack before filling.

Vanilla Pastry Cream:

1 1/4 C whole milk

3 large egg yolks

1/4 C granulated white sugar, I like baker's sugar

2 Tbl cornstarch, sifted

2 Tbl all-purpose flour, sifted

1/2 vanilla bean, split lengthwise (or 1 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract)

In a small saucepan, boil milk and vanilla (if using beans, scrape the seeds into the milk and include the pods). In a medium saucepan, gently whisk the yolks, sugar, cornstarch and flour until well blended and a thick consistency. While still whisking, drizzle in about 3/4 cup of the warm milk over egg yolks to warm them. Continue to whisk as you slowly incorporate the rest of the milk. Put the pan over medium heat and whisk constantly, bringing to a boil. Keep mixture at a boil, continuing to whisk, for approximately 1-2 minutes, remove from heat and strain vanilla bean through fine strainer, seeds can be left in mixture. The consistency of the cream should be smooth and silky. Transfer into a bowl and let cool for approximately 5 minutes. You can place a piece of plastic wrap over the cream so a skin does not form. Refrigerate until cold and ready to use. This can be made a day in advance.

Fruits:

Approximately 3 Cups of various fruits of your choice. I find fruits that aren't too juicy work best, such as raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, kiwi, citrus fruits and plums.
I sometimes like to add toasted almond slivers

Apricot Glaze:

1/2 C apricot jam or preserves

1 Tbl Grand Marnier (you can substitute other liqueurs or water) I plan to use Chambord next.

Heat the apricot jam or preserves and liqueur in a small saucepan over low-medium heat until melted. Remove from heat and strain the jam through a fine strainer to remove any pieces of fruit. If using, add the liqueur. Let cool until slightly warm.

Assembly:

Remove the tart from the fluted sides of the pan, place your hand under the pan, touching only the removable bottom not the sides. Gently push the tart straight up, away from the sides. The fluted tart ring should fall away.

Spread a thin layer of apricot glaze over the bottom and sides of the tart shell. Let glaze dry 30 minutes. Spread the pastry cream evenly onto the bottom of the baked tart shell, filling about 3/4 full.

Arrange fruit in overlapping circles, or any design you like. Rewarm glaze and brush lightly onto fruit. Serve immediately or refrigerate (remove 20-30 minutes prior to serving).

Couture Cocktails ~ Rose Martini

1/4 oz. rosewater

1 drop rose food color

~ fill half of a cocktail shaker with ice, add liquids and shake

A Sad Farewell ~

Today the world said farewell to one of the most glamorous women of all time, Dame Elizabeth Taylor. She is what I envision as Old Hollywood Glamour..

..captivating her audiences with her violet-blue eyes in performances such as Cat on Hot Tin Roof, and later began her crusade for HIV.

She was considered to be the last major star to have come out of the old Hollywood studio system.
