Paris is synonymous with iconic luxury labels such as Chanel, Dior, and Hermès. I typically try to bring something back from one of them when I visit {that's if I can wait} and Hermès has always been at the top of the list and one of my first stops. In between visits, you can find me perusing the website and fawning over the Kelly and Birkin bags, as well as everything else. Lately, I've had my eye on a new belt and, luckily, the website was restocked this week and I was able to grab it quickly before it sells out again. Although I would rather see the item in person, this isn't possible since there isn't a store here in St. Louis.
The quality and craftsmanship of Hermès is unparalleled. It takes approximately 48 hours for one of Hermès's artisans to create a Birkin bag and, per Hermès's policy, only one artisan can produce one model bag from beginning to finish. Each artisan has their own unique set of tools which are never shared and taken with the artisan when they retire. Many bags are said to be rejected as they don't meet the standards and become either shelf displays or sold to the staff in sales.
The Brand is planning to open two new factories in Héricourt and in Montbéliard in 2015 or 2016 to cope with rising demand. Perhaps this will help with the stocking issue? Both new sites are within 20kms of the brand's existing factory in Seloncourt and will specialise in the craftsmanship of leather goods.
I've put together a wishlist of some of my favourite items. Afterall, Christmas is around the corner...
